The project marked a joint initiative between the Lebanese Ministries of Agriculture and Industry, the Italian Embassy in Beirut, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Lebanon, Istituto Oikos Onlus, and UNIDO Lebanon through the STONE Project & the Shouf Biosphere Reserve.
This initiative, which is a part of a broader UNIDO initiative organized under the banner “Strengthening Job Creation and Creativity in the Agri-food sector in Lebanon through Technology Transfer and Skills Training” in collaboration with the STONE project, aims at improving the value chain of Zaatar production in Maaser El Shouf and neighboring villages.
The supporting actions were implemented by providing technical assistance, innovative approaches, new products development, and marketing tools to enable Zaatar Producers to advance the quality-quantity model. In addition, a milestone experience has been established in partnership with Lavender Mine and Zaatar Mine”, which is “The House of Zaatar and Lavender”, where a traditional Lebanese house was transformed into a sustainable model that supports local small-scale producers by displaying their innovative products and creating closer connections with the local community.
