Webinar on FDA Regulations and Market Requirements

The webinar was attended by farmers, producers, and processors of thyme in Lebanon and aimed to present and detail the requirements and steps under the Food and Drug Administration regarding the export of thyme and spices to the United States of America.

The seminar was presented by Dr. Abdullah Nasser El-Din, Economic Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Lebanon to the United States of America, with the presence of Mr. Wael Hachem, Charge’ d’Affaires a.i. Embassy of the Republic of Lebanon to the USA, Mr. Riccardo Savigliano, Chief of the Agro-Industries and Skills Development Division at UNIDO, Mr. Emanuele D’Andrassi, Head of the Economic Office, Embassy of Italy in Lebanon, Mr. Dany Gedeon, Director General Ministry of Industry-Lebanon, represented by Eng. Lina Assi, Engineer- Head of Standards & Quality Inspection Department at the Ministry of Industry in Lebanon, and Mr. Louis Lahoud, Director General Ministry of Agriculture in Lebanon.

The webinar included technical presentations about the Lebanese Zaatar, its origins, and its economic importance delivered by Ms. Nada Barakat, National Project Coordinator of this project at UNIDO. A second demonstration titled: “The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA): International Stakeholder Engagement: Thyme from the Republic of Lebanon” was tackled by Ms. Daria Kleinmeier, Team Leader at the U.S. FDA, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and a PPT by Dr. Aparna Tatavarthy, microbiologist at the U.S. FDA, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition related to many important requirements such as “Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)”.
